John holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Engineering with a focus on heat transfer and fluid flow from the University at Buffalo. This background provides a strong understanding of the science behind moisture movement, airflow, temperature behavior, and indoor environmental conditions—principles that are fundamental to effective structural drying, mold remediation, and environmental restoration.
Over the course of his career, John has worked in engineering, technical project leadership, and property renovation, gaining extensive experience with how buildings are constructed, repaired, and restored. What is the difference between mold remediation and mold removal?
Mold is a naturally occurring part of the environment, so it is generally impossible to remove every mold spore from a building. Mold remediation focuses on returning mold levels to a normal condition by removing contamination, cleaning affected areas, and correcting the moisture conditions that allowed growth to occur.
Do you remove mold or just treat it?
Effective mold remediation involves identifying and correcting the moisture source, removing contaminated materials when necessary, cleaning affected surfaces, and using engineering controls such as containment and HEPA filtration. Simply spraying chemicals on mold without addressing the underlying moisture problem is not considered proper remediation.
How can I prevent water/mold damage?
